thanks for your help

i have built manymanymany pcs and never had this trouble.

the motherboards will not switch on the psu to boot up...they just get enough power to light an led for a few seconds when the psu is first switched on using the psu switch, then nothing else i do will get them to do anything after that.

it is frustrating to try to fix this problem so you can help by typing all the advice you may have instead of asking questions (if i don't give info you need then you can always just say, "if the answer is this then try this idea, if it's another then try this instead," etc. THANKS!)

hopefully you can understand how it is very disappointing to spend many hours reading worthless google results and then getting the exact same questions/replies when you are forced to make your own thread for help. sometimes getting tech support online feels like you have to explain every last excruciating detail or someone will somehow go right to that one particular thing you forgot to mention ARGH 😵

this is a new build with new parts

i have correctly connected the 24pin ATX power, the 8 pin CPU power, and the CPU fan power connectors. no other internal connected devices require power.

i have tried two different of EVERYTHING!

two different motherboards (same model)

two different cpus (different models, same socket 1700 LGA, supported by bios version)
these cpus do not have integrated graphics
of course the corner arrow is in the correct corner

two different RAM sticks (specs identical to motherboard support list)

two different power supply units (they are set to the correct volts for my region)

i only have one video card available to try at the moment but i have the same problem whether or not it is plugged in

the motherboard is ASUS Pro H610M D4 CSM.

a single red LED lights for a few seconds when the PSU is switched on. ASUS tech support says they have no information on this LED and it does not match their error reporting LED information.

the case power button is connected to the right pins. i have tried reversing its pins (power/ground). i thought the problem might be the case has a bad button so i have also shorted the pins using a jumper. when i do that the PSU will make a quiet tick once and then nothing happens.

i have tried the motherboards mounted into the pc case on the standoff screws, and also outside of the case on a clean wooden surface

i have tried taking everything off the board and powering it up without anything connected except the PSU and the exact same thing happens.

i already checked the 8 pin cable from the PSU and it is definitely for the CPU and not for the GPU.

this has happened with two different motherboards as i said of the exact same model and bios version, bought from two different sources.

i reset the CMOS on both of the motherboards, no change at all

so i have built two different identical systems trying to get just one of them to work and every possible combination always has the exact same problem

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

So you've got an assortment of parts, it's best you list all parts out to see if there's an issue with your BIOS or your parts.
