Hi,

I've recently gotten my hands on 6 Motorola AP 300s.
But I can't figure out how to get them working.

I've bought a Linksys LGS116P with POE which is connected to my modem/router (kpn experia box).
I've tried pluggin the AP into the Linksys and the lights switch on and start to blink. But they just keep blinking for hours.

Does anyone know how they work?

Thanks for helping.

Solution
They cannot connect if they are on different networks, the default is to use DHCP so do this as it states:

"The access point uses a Graphical User Interface (GUI) which can be accessed using any supported Web browser on a client connected to the subnet the Web UI is configured on."

and

"1. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to an access point LAN port and connect the other end to a computer with a working Web browser.
2. Set the computer to use an IP address between 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.250 on the connected port. Set a subnet/network mask of 255.255.255.0.

The access point’s IP address is optimally provided using DHCP. A zero config IP address can also be derived if DHCP resources are unavailable."

So do not use the zero...
So I followed your advise and I'm reading Motorola solutions wing 5.5.5 Access point system reference guide and on page 28 (chapter 2-2) it tells you how to connect to the Web UI;
convert the last 2 bytes in the MAC address to decimals and put those behind the zero config.
Which practically means if my last 2 bytes of the mac address are 3E:1A the IP is 169.254.62.26.
And set the pc to use an IP address between 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.250 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.

So I set my laptop to use static IP 192.168.0.54 on my LAN port and connected my laptop to the switch. And I connected my AP300 to a PoE port on the same switch. Then I tried to connect to the IP using the latest Google Chrome browser: page not found.

So I thought I might try to connect the AP300 directly to my Laptop; page not found.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
I'm not even sure if I'm using the correct reference guide :s

So do not use the zero config type of address (or you would need to set your laptop to an address of 169.254.x.y where x is the same as the calculated value and y is not), use a laptop with an address in the 192 network range given that is connected and have the router online (gateway address of 192.168.0.1) so that it can assign the AP an address on the network. Now whether this is the correct manual is another question, but likely this is a method used on most or all of the models -- but the AP300 goes back many years and I would look them over for a manufacture date or more detailed model number.

Depending on your router, you can either give your laptop a static or reserved dynamic address in the required range.

Solution
I just checked with my Router, and the AP300 gets an IP address. The router then sends OFFER to the AP300 and an ACK the same second. It repeats this 6 times untill it says : UPnP add port mapping from [AP300 IP]to port number [Port number] Successful.
it repeats it a few times untill it start a PPP, and a few second later it gets a LCP time-out. It then disconnects the LCP and get's a PPP time-out.

And it starts with sending OFFERs and ACKs again.

Hope this helps you understand the problem a bit.

It was manufactured in 2007.
I don't really know what other information will help you, got lots of numbers on the back 😛.

Do you see either of these numbers on the unit:

WSAP-5100-100-WWR: 802.11 a/b/g External Antenna Model
WSAP-5100-050-WWR: 802.11 b/g External Antenna Model

or

WSAP-5110-100-WWR: 802.11 a/b/g Internal Antenna Model
WSAP-5110-050-WWR: 802.11 b/g Internal Antenna Model

Everything that I can find on configuring them uses an AP controller switch. They went end of life in 2010. HERE is the product sheet. The Quick Install Guide also discusses that the units depend on using a compatible AP controller, which was standard back then and still is very common, although standalone AP units are available now (I primarily use Cisco stand alone units -- i.e. without a controller).

"Motherboard firmware enables the unit to boot after either a power up or a watchdog reset.
After self-boot, the motherboard sends an “I am alive” message into the network to be adopted
and loaded with the actual runtime code. The boot firmware on the motherboard and the
firmware downloaded from the switch can be updated via the Ethernet interface from the
Wireless Switch." The wireless switch referenced is a controller unit.

Any chance that you can get a controller unit from where you got the APs? I would not spend much on it though since the APs are B/G only.

Thank you RealBeast,
I might be able to get the controller unit.
My dad got these 6 APs from work a few months ago after they upgraded their system, and they might have the controller unit laying around somewhere. He contacted the IT department, so I'll know more in a few days.

Thank you again for our help.

Okay, I've got a controller unit, a Motorola WS2000.
And it kinda works, it sets up the ap300 and the ap300 transmits a wifi signal. But I got the the ws2000 and ap300 from my dads work,
so it still transmits their WiFi signals.

I've looked up an install guide, and it says to connect to an IP address to set up the Motorola. But I can't connect to it.
Any ideas why? I've read something about connect a serial cable to it and using terminal emulation program, will this work and how?

I tried a female-female serial 'converter' on an female-male cable with putty and hyperterminal. I got the 'unable to connect to com1 error'.
Then I tried the female-female with the serial-USB with hyperterminal, no error but no text, just a white screen.

Any ideas how to proceed?

Hello everyone! I've got almost the same equipment installed at our office and I'm fighting with it for last couple of weeks, trying to make it operational. I made a console cable. For that I used female-female connectors and standard Cat5e cable. Pin-out is: 2-3, 3-2, 5-5 (null modem serial cable). Don't use putty, SecureCRT works way better with this device. use 19200, 8, 1. If you need assistance in Eth ports configuration, I can help.

The equipment I have here is Motorola WS5100 wireless switch and few AP300. My problem is that I'm not able to login to the switch using web based interface, even though I have configured user with full access through terminal. I see login screen, typing correct login and password, but it keeps saying: "Login failed". I have no idea what to do next, searched entire internet. I also tried to upgrade my device as it uses 2004 software, but can't find how to do that and can't download firmware from greedy and useless Motorola web site. It says that support period for my device is over in 2006. I will never understand why do they keep these files like some sort of top secret software while this hardware is out of production! 🙁 I didn't find upgrade software on other sites either. Any help will be highly appreciated!

Anatoly.

Sorry to wake this old thread again, but I have an update.
Turns out I was using the wrong cable to reset, but now I'm having the same problem as Tolikshar.

I'm using the default 'admin' with password 'symbol' as login, but I keep getting the error: "LogIn Failed, Could not connect to WS2000".
When I login with SecureCRT it will login and prompt for new password, even when I change it here, the error will still pop-up when trying to connect with the interface.

I think it might have something to do with JAVA, but I've tried updating en multiple browsers (IE,Chrome, Firefox, Opera).
Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

[UPDATE 22-02-2015 17:54]
I just tried to acces it with an older pc (running xp, JAVA 1.6.0_26 and IE8) and I got in!
