I have an old Motorola SurfBoard 5101 and I need to know its IP adress, to get to the settings. I tried 192.168.100.1 but it does not work, "No data recieved"
The webpage says: Default IP address: 192.168.100.1 but I can't! what should I do?
This page -- http://portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm has instructions on how to set a static IP address on your computer. Set your computer to 192.168.100.99 or something and then try again.
Open "Command prompt" on your computer, execute "ipconfig". YOu will see your own IP address, and a line with "Default gateway". This is your router' internal IP address.
I'm trying to get in to the Modem, not in the Router
You will have to remove the router from between your PC and the modem and connect the PC directly to the modem. I would recommend having it disconnected from the internet so that your PC is not vulnerable.
If this Motorola is a modem, it has public IP only, there is no port forwarding at that level. It's the router (actually, a gateway) who does NATting and port-forwarding.
Can you identify how your network is configured? There is something basic that I don't understand. A modem, which is what a SB5101 is, does not work at the TCP level. It doesn't know about ports.
A modem is not a TCP level device. It operates lower in the network stack at the PHY layer. That is why I am asking for you to describe your network. You are describing a symptom that can't be traced to the device you are concentrating on.
Do you have just one PC connected directly to the modem? Is there a router?
