Has anyone had any success in building a Swiss-like, unpenetrable
mountain range defense.

I used to hate artillery was a scame, but I am finding that sticking a
radar artillery, backed up by a couple of infantry units of course, in
a mountain fortress provides a nice little cushion.

Has anyone else tried this? Or have any other strategies for mountain
ranges (I'm thinking of the Pyraness in particular)?

By the way, now that multiplay is starting to work well, and a
tournament system is coming into place, are people being stingy with
strategy tips in forums like this?

Mountain defense is great. Best bonus, with a fortress built, and
that can eat up a lot of invaders.

Put some fast attack units like cavalry or tanks, which have a zone
of control, so that units trying to slip between/around fortresses
will get hit. The artillery only adds to this, making it even harder
for the enemy to win.

Lesser defensive terrain can work, but mountains are the most
impressive. If you have a few mountains on the shortest route between
you and the enemy, put units on them, send in workers to make the
fortress (and roads for reinforcement if it is not in enemy
territory), and artillery.

The artillery can shoot up enemy trying to approach or run, making
it easier for your fast attack units to mop them up.

I doubt it. The only likely reticience is going to be suggestions
about a current game, where the tactic is being kept secret until it
gets used. Once used, though, everyone will want to talk about it.
