Hi all
I am finally getting ready to upgrade my ancient pc. I'm trying to only change what I need If anyone know if and how if possible I could fit that cooler on AM4 board I'd welcome the suggestion.
Core I5 2500k
ASRock Z77 Pro4
12GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz
GTX 970
Antec VP550p was bought new ages ago just like the rest
CoolerMaster HAF 912+
And 5 drives
2x ssd
2x 25 inch hdd
and 1x 3.25 Samsung F3 1TB
Case and drives stay. If psu will suffice to run something around £750-800 I'd keep it.
So Ideally new CPU, GPU, MOBO and RAM. Cooling and PSU only if must.
CPU cooler compatibility list. As far as working on an AM4 motherboard I have no hands on to make that call.
Your post sounds like you want advice on a new build. Can you give a little more info on your price range for the build and how you use computer. Gaming not gaming. 4K or just an internet cruiser.
Well I'm not surprised that the AM4 boards won't be on the list the cooler is more than a decade too old for that. But I was wondering if you can buy a mounting kit that would do the trick. That being said coolers are not expensive so it's not a big deal.
Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE CPU Air Cooler
AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
XFX Speedster QICK 319 Black Edition AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT 12 Go GDDR6
If the current PSU can run this great, if not I'll get another one. Ideally I'd not go past £850 if new psu is needed. With the above set up being £787 on amazon that looks possible with a decent 650W PSU.
Gaming but mostly old games, SC2, civ 5 so on. My friend wants to jump on helldrivers 2 which my museum piece won't run so I'm looking for a cheapish upgrade. Monitor is 1440p
Besides I'm surprised that pc lasted as long as it did, with cpu running at 4.5 GHz under load since 2012.
I wouldn't trust the old PSU just on age. And it is really too small for a 7700XT. That is a 145W GTX 970 to a 245W GPU. Plus the boost characteristics of modern CPUs and GPUs, they can go beyond that for short durations.
