Mouse and keyboard don't work

A buddy gave me his old gaming computer, been sitting in his basement for a year now, got it cleaned up and booted up but when it gets to user login neither mouse nor keyboard work , mouse light is on but doesn't move and numlock is on but won't go off.. Keyboard works whenever I enter setup ... Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks!

Sounds like drivers are shot for that computer. Try using a different keyboard or even trying to connect to a different port after the computer starts up. If neither work, you'll need to go to safe mode to fix it, or possibly reinstall windows.

I had an old PC and tried to use USB mouse and keyboard I found out i had to use the old PS/2 mouse and keyboard until I got the drivers installed for USB to work.

Thank you both! I found a ps/2 keyboard and it worked fine . it was my drivers
