Hello there,

Okay so I recently just got my computer fixed and now once I turn on my mouse and keyboard with both of them plugged IN they will turn on with the computer and then turn off as soon as it says "Starting Windows". What's weird is if I go into the BIOS menu they both work. Does anyone know how to fix this? My friend just installed a brand new MSI Motherboard.

Yeah that makes sense. I started it in SAFE MODE and they both work. I think I'm going to restart my computer and see if they both turn off again.

You say you got your computer fixed by installing a new motherboard? What was the motherboard before that? did you do a fresh install of the OS on the new board or did you just take the old HDD with OS and plug it into the new board and booted up the computer.

If its the old HDD with old OS on a new board then the drivers aren't there for the keyboard and mouse, it could also be freezing at the starting windows screen because its trying to load all the drivers for the new board.

Safe mode works since windows does not load drivers for the computer, it uses a set of generic drivers for everything.

Few things i would do.

First if you or your friend have and extra HDD the same or larger size then your HDD with the OS on it would clone it so you have a bootable backup of it. I use macrium reflect, its free and does a good job.

Second since it sounds like your trying to boot a new motherboard off an old OS install i would boot into safe mode and uninstall all drivers for the computer. right now windows is trying to load the new motherboard with old drivers from the last MB. By uninstalling all the drivers windows will have to find new drivers, almost acting like a fresh install for the computer. ( i would only try this if you have a cloned and bootable backup of your OS)

Third would be to do a fresh install on the new MB.

Yeah they both still don't work when I start windows normally but they both work in safe mode. When I'm in safe mode It says "Installing Device Driver." A little bit after that it says "Device driver software was not successfully installed, click here for details." Then I tried to click for details and it doesn't do anything after that.

Fresh install as in factory restore with a Windows 7 Installation Disk?

What the Driver Softwares are saying now is
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller/ PCI Simple Communications Controller/ SM Bus Controller = ALL No Driver Found

I'm guessing that's because I changed Motherboards it's not recognizing it?

If your able to get that far put the cd in that came with the new motherboard and install the chipset drivers. that might get you far enough to boot into windows. If not i would try this

This is where your going to run into problems with windows 7. any OEM copy of windows 7 weather installed by a manufacture or bought copy is supposed to be tied to the original motherboard it was registered to.
Windows 8/8.1 is a little different with OEM if its installed by the manufacture is tied to the board, if you bought the OEM disc and key then you can transfer it.

Anyway since your computer is booting up to the windows start screen and not getting a BSOD your more then 50% of the way there.

LIke i said take your drive to your friends house and put it and another clean drive in his computer, download macrium reflect and clone your HDD to the clean drive. Make sure to clone the whole drive with the boot record and eveything. Remember that you drive will no longer be the C drive in his computer.

Next put your old drive back in your computer and boot into safe mode, go into device manager and uninstall any and all drivers you can find. Once done exit out and reboot the computer, if all went well you should get the start screen ,which might freeze for a while as windows figures out new drivers for everything. If it does not boot up then you might have to do a system repair which you will need a windows 7 disc, make sure you use the right one. If you have win 7 home use a home disc if its pro then use a pro disc. DO NOT USE the recovery disc if the old computer was a prebuilt from a manufacture.

You will not be able to do a factory restore anymore as its not the same motherboard that came with the computer.
