I recently bought a raspberry pi 0 and when I went to boot up, I noticed my wireless keyboard and mouse would not work. It works on my main computer but no the pi. The mouse and keyboard share a single USB dongle. Any ideas?

Solution
Its no problem with both mouse and keyboard on the same USB port.
I use that via an external USB 2.0 hub on all my RPi's (1B/1B+/2B/3B).
This USB hub is however externally powered not to load the Pi, as my keyboard is backlited and consumes extra power.

I also run a PATA DVD and a SATA SSD on the same USB adapter via the cheap Ebay/AliExpress USB to sata converter cable.
The drives are also here externally powered.

1. Does Raspian recognize the USB dongle. I suspect a problem with the driver here, as these dongles are NOT standard bluetooth or WiFi types.

I have a similar problem. My Pi4 works fine with a USB tethered keyboard and mouse, but when I use a known good wireless combo, both slow down and lag, and I turned off the the Wifi with no difference.

I have tried to use a USB powered extender to avoid any WiFi interference, but no joy - The same problem.

Any suggestions?

My suggestion is, that your known good combo - driver - is not the right one for raspian.
Using your terminal typing "lshw" (l as in Lars) try list the installed keyboard type.
