On certain games that I mainly use a controller with the mouse is switching to deskop when i click the left mouse button. It does it across multiple mice and multiple monitor setups. This issue just started recently and hadn't been a problem before. Any ideas what could be causing the mouse click to act like it's clickign the desktop? I think that might be the issue.

"Same thing" meaning it still clicks into the desktop...?

Are you sure that you "applied" or otherwise saved the mouse software changes?

Do you have multiple mouse configurations that have been set up for games or other applications? Look for and check them as well - same for joysticks or any other input devices that can mimic keyboard presses.

Could be that the mouse button has been configured to act as if the Windows logo and D key were pressed together.

Windows + D is Show Desktop.

Look for Mouse properties or perhaps some third party application that can reconfigure mouse buttons. Or some other controller that may have set up the same effect.

I changed the mouse button through the software provided for the mouse. Swapped the button out and even mapped it to a different button so I had more than one "left click" assigned. Did the same thing.

I don't have any macros going on. The only reason I installed the mouse program is because I was having this problem. I tried a different mouse before that and had the same issue. All I can think at this point is somehow the mouse thinks it is pointing at the desktop so when I click it acts like Alt+Tab. The thing that makes me think it could be something else is it doesn't happen on every game. Just the ones that have a good amount of support for gamepads. So for example. A game called Red Orchestra which relies mainly upon mouse and keyboard works but something like GTAV doesn't. Also, clicking works in windowed mode just fine. Thanks for your reply.

Ok a little history. Recently I plugged in a display cable as in addition to an hdmi cable for my monitor since i couldn't get more than 60hz through hdmi. Apparently somewhere between plugging the displayport cable in and unplugging the hdmi cable it caused an issue where it constantly thought i was clicking another desktop not related to the game. I imagine no one else will ever run into this issue besides me considering the paltry google search returns but at least if it ever happens to someone else they will know why (but not really).

Probably one of those "perfect storm" type scenerios. Figurering out the why part could be tricky - maybe just a small static discharge during the cable swap.

Who knows.....

Still good to know - maybe some pattern will develop and a specific cause and effect will be discovered. Thanks.

The solution was just keeping hdmi and display port cables plugged in. I never unplugged the display port cable from the computer so it probably was getting confused since I had 2 cables plugged into one monitor. This was mainly so I could run fallout 4 at a lower refresh rate without having to mess with software settings. I didn't like the fact that it was extending the desktop to an invisible 3rd monitor all the time so I unplugged the hdmi cable and that's when the problem started. Once I plugged the hdmi cable back in the problem stopped. Go figure.
