Currently haev an A4Tech laser mouse, X6-550, I think the DPi is about 1600.

Anyway, have an ageing mouse matt that is begining to look very dog eared so am looking to replace it.

Problem is finding reviews on mouse matts seems to be like pulling teeth.
The replacement mouse matt shouldnt irritate the current laser mouse (though I think this would be more of an issue if the mouse was optical and not laser??)

But it has got to last and be a great surface for when I decide to play games or fiddle about with photos,etc.. Ive had a look arround and I cant justfy spending £30+ on a mouse matt, maybe some empirical eveidence could sway me there.

For the £30 mark I would consider a mouse and mouse matt combo but really just for the mouse matt I dont want to pay anymore than about £10-20 tops.

What mouse matt do you have and why? + what would you buy as a replacement?

I don't use any mouse pad since they came out with optical mice. The only time I do is for the gel rest for my wrist. If you have an issue with your desk being too shiny or glass or white, then get a mouse pad. If you have issues with your wrist getting sore, get a pad with a gel rest.

I have this one, works fine, surface is not the smoothest for mouse but not bad http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817114113

Really pick one from here based on design and price 🙂 all got good reviews

Although really the only time you should want a mouse pad is if the desk surface is not good (bumpy, etc..) or you want a gel pad.

hang-the-9,
actually a mouse mat will keep the pads on your mouse from getting clogged with gunk, and prevent some mice with low pads from grinding on the desk surface. i went years without using one and the difference is astounding.

op,
you don't have to believe all the hype. a $5 or free mousepad will work just as well as a $30 to $50 specialty mouse pad. you know the type, usually fanciful printing on the front with a foam/rubber back. they even come in extra large sizes without an extra large increase in price.
