Mouse not pasting what I've copied.

I know this is a really stupid question, but it is frustrating for me. When I go to copy some information, it pastes something quite irrelevant. I'm not sure if it's because I am using a genealogy program (Family Tree Maker). I was copying a whole lot of info from a census and it pastes an irrelevant date instead. It has happened before. I am using a Logitech mouse (small traveller one, with batteries). Why will it not paste what I copy?

Solution

The clipboard only holds what you copied to it last.
The issue might be the data type for that field in the family history program. If that particular field is designated a 'Date', some random string of numbers might appear as a date.
Or if a long block of text, it would be cut off, because that field might only hold 10 characters.
Well how would I know what the clipboard holds. How come I could post that correct information on to a blank word document, and then do it again in the family history program (which came out as a date) (I posted it to a word document to see what would paste.)

I received this in the mail again today 16/1/17 despite the previous answer been sent October 3rd 2016. No explanation.

I take it no-one can help further? I really dont see why I have to change to Ctrl Paste etc. when I've right clicked for 30 years.
