Mouse only works on certain surfaces

Hello people.
I use a A4Tech XL-747h and I've been experiencing some problems with it for a while. It works on the back of some of my books and on my bare desk, but not on a plain white paper or X7 mouse pad. It was okay before, but now this happened.
Is there any way to fix this?

I had this issue and one of our members here suggested to use a colored card stock as a mouse pad. It worked for me. Can you try a darker shade? The reflectance of the Laser or infra-red beam has to be right. You may need to experiment. Also, check and see whether there is any sensitivity adjustment or setting for your mouse.
