Hi all, basically I have a problem with my mouse pointer freezing in Windows 2000, bear in mind this does not happen in Windows 98se. When I am browsing the web, whilst playing mp3's off my second HDD, it locks at certain points. I have tried moving HDD's from the ATA 100, to ATA 66, still no joy. I have also updated the VIA chipset and I have all hotfixes and sp2 applied. I have attached a copy of hardware in my PC, not sure if any of you guys will be able to help, it's got me totally confused, especially since if I play the mp3s off my c drive I cannot make it crash again, must be something to do about the second HDD, which fails on any channel I install it, even on its own.

If you mean that the mouse pointer locks, and you then have to restart your system, i have the same problem, and it is the reason for me looking here...

My system seems to lock up when i am using the internet or networking, but I am always doing that, so I'm not sure if that is the problem. I think it also may be the video card.. I have a Cisco 678 external DSL modem, ECS K7VZA mb, 256 Mghz PC 100 SDRAM, AMD Thunderbird 750, and Matrox G450.

I have already switched out the RAM for new. It's driving me crazy, and I can't figure out what the problem is. HELP!

Win2K's mouse buffer is notoriously cheesy, go to Device Manager, mouse properties and up the sample rate to 100 which unfortunately is the max, also set the buffer length to 300.

If still having problems it is possible to increase the sample rate but only through an obscure registry entry, try just upping it in Device Manager first.
