Hi guys.

I've recently bought a new optical mouse, and while at first it was working correctly after a while a random problem started occurring. Sometimes when the mouse it's being used (mainly gaming) the sensitivity goes down a lot and the led light at the bottom dims (like when the mouse is lifted up for a while). I think it's the mouse going to idle (or not waking from idle) and the only way to fix it is by tapping or shaking it. I notice it occurs more the longer time it's used in a session, when I start the PC it doesn't occur and then it start happening more and more frequently. Any way to fix this, even disabling the idle altogether?

Using Windows 7 x64, the mouse is a wired USB optical gaming mouse.

Not likely to be an "idle" setting as the performance would be consistent.

If the problem increases with time it is probably heat related.

Try another USB port first. Then another mouse if you can. See if you can narrow the behavior down to the mouse or to the USB port.

Narrows down to a faulty mouse then.

Hopefullly you can return the mouse for a replacement contigent upon that you like the mouse and want to keep using that make and model.

Check the manufacturer's webpage forums and FAQ's to see if there are general problems with that model. That information may help facilitate a replacement or a refund.

Thank you, I checked online and indeed there's other people reporting similar problems with this model. Because the mouse was cheap and bought online replacement isn't really worth it, I'll buy a new one after doing some research on some good ones. For the time being I opened it and place the back logo LED pointing where the sensor LED is, and it seems to be working correctly.

Okay good.

But the best way to buy a mouse is to go out to some stores and try them. Fit, feel, quality, etc. Pick two or three that you like most and research those products accordingly via reviews, manufacturer websites (FAQ's/forums). Look at the online User Guides/Manuals. Sometimes there is some fine print regarding use and compatibility.
