Hello there, I've just started and I've seen a lot of things here that helped be better understand some things happening in my computer.
But recently I'm experiencing something odd on my PC and though some "symptoms" may sound similar to other topics already posted, there are some that I think might be unique that's why I posted this.

Sometimes as I boot my PC, I c1an't left click. I can click on things on the desktop just fine but I can't click anything on the taskbar. If I open a window and I left click on it, the window becomes inactive as if I clicked outside of it, despite my cursor clicking on the window.

To fix this, I need to press ctrl+alt+del then exit the menu then it will be fine...for a while....then i have to do it again. Restarting windows explorer works too but I prefer the first one since it's faster.

Sometimes when I boot my PC, the mouse is fine for a while then malfunctions later on then I have to do the thing again: ctrl+alt+del then the mouse will work when I click anything in the menu.

Also, when i press ctrl+alt+del, the left click won't work immediately, seconds later it will work.

I also tried pressing those three as soon as I boot. What happens is I can't left click on anything, I have to press Esc to exit the menu then the mouse will work fine.

Sometimes when I hover on the top right of any window, I won't be able to click on any of the three buttons there. The minimize, maximize and exit. On browsers, I can click on the tabs just fine but not the three. Sometimes when I right click then press one of the three it will work fine then it won't then...it's just really confusing.

I'm not sure whether the problem is software or hardware but since it's about the mouse I thought it would be hardware...hopefully it's hardware. But seeing as I can just left click just fine on other areas when it malfunctions I'm afraid it might be software

Sadly, I haven't tried a different mouse yet. I'm also using a PS2 mouse that's around 1 year old I think.

Solution
It can be either driver related or windows related. Reinstall the mouse driver and if that doesnt work reinstall windows.
Either way try a different mouse if possible.

Thanks for the answer.
For some reason it decided to fix itself....or at least I think it did. Just now as I turned on the PC, everything was fine...for some reason it's fine and I don't know how or why it's like this...

But I will definitely try what you said in case it happens again.
