Mouse stopped working after plugging into different device

Hi,

I recently bought a new USB mouse and it was working perfectly fine on my laptop. However, after I plugged it in my desktop, it didn't work there and when I plugged back in my laptop, it doesn't work anymore. The light is still on but the cursor won't move. I tried rebooting and safe mode but both didn't solve the problem. Troubleshooting didn't help either, it just tells me that the mouse isn't working, which I already know.

A little back ground on the desktop. I bought a graphics card and new power box for it, everything else is the same. An old mouse had the exact same problem as I described earlier but I thought it was the mouse that stopped working so I got a new one. But two mice having the same problem sounds more like a coincidence. Both are wired mouse and the cords are not worn out. There is no debris on the bottom side of the mice.

Any tips or advice would help. Thank you so much!

Cheap mice?

Try different usb ports on your pc. Try a different mouse again.

I tried all ports for both mice on both desktop and laptop. Still the same problem. And yes, the new mouse was cheap, but I don't think cheap enough to stop working after 1 week.

You have already done everything. If not mouse it not working on 2 different Computers and different ports, regardless that optical light is on the mouse seems to have failed.

Your fundamental issues may be that you PC where you Changed out the PSU and added a GFX, you may have plugged you USB wires incorrectly thus damaging your mice

Check your USB are correctly connected

If I understand correctly, you're saying that when I added the graphics card/PSU, I somehow plugged the USB wires internally incorrectly, which results in the mouse not working there. The solution would be to open up the desktop box thing and check if the wires are connected correctly.

Also, does that mean the mouse won't be functional on any computer anymore since they are damaged (internally)?

Assuming your Motherboard is using the Standard of USB and the wires are in correctly you should be fine.

Note that on some Cases you have to plug then in both ends.

If you find a wire inconstancy or its plugged into something other that a USB on the MB then this is likely your issue and using that port may damage any device plugged into it...
