I have an old, yet function Logitech MX310 which I've had for years, and am quite attached to. it's been used solid for between 6 and 10 hours a day, for probably over 10 years and has never failed me.

Every year or two I've taken to dismantling the little critter to remove the accumulated fluff, dust, dead flies and other detritus that tends to accumulate within it. Just recently I've noticed that the scroll wheel action is getting a bit stiff -I can only assume I've removed some of the lubricant in my most recent cleaning.

Any thoughts or ideas as to the right sort of grease to use on the wheel mechanism? Anyone done this sort of exercise in the past?

I would use dielectric grease. you can get it from an auto parts store. it is a silicon based grease that is safe for use on plastics.
