Mouse won't work

hi! okay so i was doing homework when all of a sudden, my mouse just stopped working. my trackpad works fine, but my mouse won't work. i put new batteries in, i restored my computer to when it was working, and i restarted it, but it still won't work! i've googled everything but none of the solutions will work. please help!
