Solution
That's exactly what was indicated in the last post on that thread. If you read that closely it explains one potential reason why, but that might not apply to your particular situation.
No, that's not it. It should be something like es1-512-c1pw, es1-512-c965, es1-512-c9y5, es1-512-p84g or something similar, along those lines. The es1-512 is the base model number, but there should be a sub model number as part of the full model number that specifies exactly what hardware is used in your particular unit. There may also be an express service ID tag that would specify the hardware as well.

Ok, but there is like Acer Aspire 1500, Aspire 1430 and 1430z, and about fifty other Aspire series models. That doesn't even include the hardware specific model number but should get us within the same family which probably uses similar hardware for the touchpad.

The first thing I'd try is going into control panel, device manager and look for any hardware with a symbol next to it. It will probably be listed under the "mice and other pointing devices category" or under "human interface devices". If there is one that stands out, right click on it and select "update driver software" and then "update automatically" to see if windows can locate a driver for the touchpad on it's own. I'll look further into this while you try that.
