Move HD to new build = Crash while loading

So, I built a new computer with a new Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard (REV 1.3, BIOS version F10), PSU, memory, CPU, and case to fit the MB. I'm reusing my SATA hard disk from my old build. I have a multi-boot system setup, with Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Ubuntu Linux. Linux works in AHCI mode, but XP and Vista don't work in either AHCI or IDE modes.

Backing up: I press the power button. I choose my OS to boot (Windows Vista). I'm told SATA is running in IDE mode and two (change to AHCI or continue in IDE mode). I see a timer as well as press any key to continue. In an effort to stop the timer to read, I press the down arrow, which instead continues and defaults IDE mode.

For Windows, the farthest it goes is to the load screen with the load bar, but restarts as soon as that starts to appear.

Unfortunately, when I was building my new computer, I noticed my case didn't come with a speaker wire :( . I don't know if my MB's trying to beep an error. On the upside, it came with an HD audio and AC '97 cable ... ugh.

In POST, all I can see is
Detecting IDE drives...
Detecting IDE drives...
Detecting IDE drives...

then the bottom line changes to:
IDE Channel 4 Master: None
IDE Channel 4 Slave : None

(though I have HDD connected on SATA0)

So anyone got any ideas? Any troubleshooting steps? I've already tried the Optimized Defaults and Load Fail-Safe Defaults. A bit weird that Linux can boot but Windows won't. Also, is this where I should post this or should I [also?] post elsewhere?

Thanks!

Edit: Just put an order in for a $4 speaker from Newegg ... so worst case scenario I'll hear any beeps if there are beeps to be heard in a couple days.

This is happening on my new build, my old build is fine (put my hard drive from old build into new build).

Current Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z68x-UD3H-B3, Rev 1.3, Bios version F10
Current CPU: Intel i7-2600k

Previous Mobo: It's roughly 7 years old. It appears to be an Intel D945GCL
CPU: Intel Pentium D 820

Yes, reusing the drive as-is, with everything installed and partitioned as it was on my old build. Unscrewed, moved, rescrewed.

I would suppose it would autodetect drivers, and go to universal or plug-and-play drivers. It just has the bare essentials, keyboard, and integrated graphics. All the parts are new (minus hard drive) and the Vista has been kept up to date.

Yeah, it's working as I type on Linux. I was just hoping Windows would be smarter than that in that department and that I wouldn't have to spend hours reformatting and reinstalling stuff (via 1.5Gbps DSL). Part of me just dreads thinking about that ...

Linux is a different player : )

Windows is very restrictive and particular.
