My current desktop rig is ~4-5 years old and adobe Lightroom and Photoshop is running a bit slowly on it. I’ve done some testing and seems like everything is running fine, it just may be time for upgrade. Currently running Intel i5-9400F, G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2666, 2 TB M.2 Solid State drive and a couple 1 TB HDD for backup/ longer term storage, and a GeForce rx570 Video Card.

I’m wanting to have a portable solution for travel and even just on the couch around the house. I don’t game and use it for photo editing of ~50 MB raw files. I’m looking at the ASUS ROG flow x16. Bestbuy has the 16 GB ram variant with i9 and 4060 card for ~$1800. From what I can tell I should be able to upgrade the RAM to 64 GB and be in a good spot. It seems ASUS isn’t the most popular but it is the only thing I’ve found to check the boxes for me. Using it as a tablet with stylus is highly desirable.

I’ve debated going to Apple but the iPad doesn’t run full adobe programs and the laptops don’t have touch screen for stylus use.

1) Any other options for having a table style or at least touch screen laptop portable solution? I liked my old surface pro table but lack of a GPU is steering me away. The surface studio laptop 2 is an option but expensive and reportedly runs real hot.

2) Is it worth maintaining the slower desktop as a storage rig or just migrate to the x16 with 1 TB and deal with managing data storage off of the unit?

3) how often are you upgrading/building new rigs? 4-5 years?

Maybe this might help:

and one of my friend uses his Tab S9+ exclusively for editing his photos with the stylus. Not the complete PC experience, but he says the stylus makes it a lot easier to outline and brush.
