hi I've bought a laptop with pre-installed & pre-activated windows 10 pro on its HDD, i want to replace it with a SSD, there is a Key Code for windows on the bottom of laptop, i wonder whether i can replace the HDD with the SSD and install windows 10 pro on it and then use the key code that has been used before again on the new windows on ssd, is this possible or not?

Solution
bought that yesterday 👀

I'm going to use WD Green 240gb ssd
M.2 2242 is hard to find in my country so i can't buy one to add to my current hdd
Laptop bought yesterday?
Just do a new OS install. For a brand new laptop, cloning is more hassle.

WD Green?
NO.
Among the mainstream manufacturers, that is one of the worst performers.

And only 240GB
Again, no.

Yes.

You probably don't even need to use the license key.

The WIndows activation is tied to the system, not the drive.

A clean install on a new drive, and it will activate itself once it goes online and contacts the activation server farm.
But if it requires, yes, enter the license key.

You could also clone or image the existing installation from the HDD onto the new SSD....rather than do a clean install. Your choice. One might be less of a hassle than the other, depending on circumstances.
how can i connect my ssd to my laptop which is Lenovo Thinkpad X240 ? it only has one slot for HDD or SSD

btw i have a pc at home, if i can connect both hdd and ssd of laptop to it with SATA cable, tell me to do so

What SSD are you looking at getting?
2.5" SATA III, or NVMe?
What is compatible with the laptop.

But, you can use a tool like Macrium Reflect to create an Image of your current drive, save that to a drive in your desktop.
Then, with a Macrium Rescue USB, you can extract that Image out to a new drive in the laptop.

But again, how long have you had this laptop?
