This Q is for wireless and hardwire networking. Sorry if it's the wrong sub forum.
I have a Nighthawk C7800.
It's on the clear other side of the house.
No one gets wi-fi at the far end of the house.
On my desktop I get 8mbps with SUPER spotty connection.
I've gone 10 years without good internet and I'm done with those days, but my brother decided to put the coax/modem at his computer for a hardwire connection on the other side of the house. Go figure. I'm not gunna play the game of fighting for that.

Today, I bought an extender.
Netgear AC1200

Now, I get 55Mbps. Which is much better but still terrible feeling, especially for gaming.

When I'm right next to the router I get 620mbps on my phone.

What can I do to make the internet better over here on the far end of the house?

Any recommendations?

I tried to get Spectrum to come out and run an ethernet to this side of the house, but they said it's a sub contractors job and not their normal tech guy's job, so the aptmt I made today was for nothing 🙁. I'd run the ethernet myself but I had hernia surgery in 3 different places and I'm out of commission for a while. Should I just wait for the sub contractor to pick up my call and come out in a week or two?

They said they'd give me a "free quote". AKA it's gunna cost like 200$++ I'm guessing.

I do not want to swap the modem/router we have to an orbi system or eero system (cuz the nighthawk was like 300+ 2 years ago and the orbi system/eero will be another couple hundred to 800$ (or whatever I saw on Amazon for a pack of 3). (Unless it's better for gaming?), but I'm willing to buy one for a cat5 hardwire AND better wifi on this side if an ethernet is brought over here.

What do you guys think? What should I do? I'm open to all opinions, even opposing ones. Like "Get the orbi system" or something.

Additional Details: My room and master bedroom to the modem/router is about 55-60ft away. If that changes context at all. Desktop in my room is highest priority bandwidth wise. No one uses their phones or devices that much otherwise at this end of the house (besides me), so wireless strength is somewhat less of a priority, but still needed.

Do you have coax cables in your room. You can use a technology called MoCA instead of ethernet and it will perform very closely.

You can also try powerline networks. It is hard to say if it will be faster than your wifi. Many people get about 130mbps on the units that have a 1000 or 2000 number on them.

With gaming the key function is stability and consistent latency they do not really care about bandwidth. Most online games use well under 1mbps. Even stuff like 4k netflix only needs around 25-30mbps. The only thing that uses huge bandwidth is downloads and it depends how much you do that and how many extra minutes it will take. If you were downloading something really huge you could temporarily move the machine closer to the router or use a long ethernet over the floor as a temporary thing.

If you are gaming, hard wire it. Wi-Fi will always lag
when hard wired, get a lan to wifi bridge or access point/router for wifi at the far end location
Yeah, figured as much regarding the wi-fi. I'm trying to find someone I can hire to run an ethernet from all the way on the opposite side of the house, but for some reason it's like pulling teeth... Electricians are quoting 450$... I'd do it myself but I'm not sure what I'm doing and I've had a surgery recently 🙁

I'm pretty sure you're insinuating just running the ethernet right?

This sounds like an amazing idea, but... For some really weird reason my brother (whom seems to have control over this), won't do it. Even though I know it's literally just tossing in a MoCA device at different spots in the house...

Unfortunately, they took the coax out of my room, but it wouldn't be hard getting it back in. There's even a hole where it used to be. (No idea why they took it out). I'm not sure why he's so against it. Prolly cuz he's never heard of it before.

I do very much appreciate the suggestion. Though I think now my only option is running a cat6 somehow. Just gotta find someone to do it...

Option 1. Get a repeater to boost that single for cheap as the cost of latency. Move your rounter into the middle of your house. Mach it for big bucks. You could also run another cable access the hallway. Other then that. It’s climb the attic/craw space to have the dirt look now .. clean later.
