This Q is for wireless and hardwire networking. Sorry if it's the wrong sub forum.
I have a Nighthawk C7800.
It's on the clear other side of the house.
No one gets wi-fi at the far end of the house.
On my desktop I get 8mbps with SUPER spotty connection.
I've gone 10 years without good internet and I'm done with those days, but my brother decided to put the coax/modem at his computer for a hardwire connection on the other side of the house. Go figure. I'm not gunna play the game of fighting for that.
Today, I bought an extender.
Netgear AC1200
Now, I get 55Mbps. Which is much better but still terrible feeling, especially for gaming.
When I'm right next to the router I get 620mbps on my phone.
What can I do to make the internet better over here on the far end of the house?
Any recommendations?
I tried to get Spectrum to come out and run an ethernet to this side of the house, but they said it's a sub contractors job and not their normal tech guy's job, so the aptmt I made today was for nothing 🙁. I'd run the ethernet myself but I had hernia surgery in 3 different places and I'm out of commission for a while. Should I just wait for the sub contractor to pick up my call and come out in a week or two?
They said they'd give me a "free quote". AKA it's gunna cost like 200$++ I'm guessing.
I do not want to swap the modem/router we have to an orbi system or eero system (cuz the nighthawk was like 300+ 2 years ago and the orbi system/eero will be another couple hundred to 800$ (or whatever I saw on Amazon for a pack of 3). (Unless it's better for gaming?), but I'm willing to buy one for a cat5 hardwire AND better wifi on this side if an ethernet is brought over here.
What do you guys think? What should I do? I'm open to all opinions, even opposing ones. Like "Get the orbi system" or something.
Additional Details: My room and master bedroom to the modem/router is about 55-60ft away. If that changes context at all. Desktop in my room is highest priority bandwidth wise. No one uses their phones or devices that much otherwise at this end of the house (besides me), so wireless strength is somewhat less of a priority, but still needed.
