movies on usb

I have movies on my usb stick which didn't work straight on my tv I think its because its an AVI file so I done some.research and found out that I needed or the best way was to convert the AVI file to an MPEG file which I have done so... I finally get it working on my tv but it has no sound to the movies any ideas if I need to convert to a different file or if anyone has any easier methods please let me know.

use this software for converting, just drag your movie file in it and select mp4 preset keep it default dont change the settings
