moving data to different partition when reinstalling windows 10

Hey guys,

My situation is that I have a new mobo and an old HDD with data. If I reinstall Win10, is it safe to move my documents photos etc. to a new partition? I know it doesn't really count as a backup, but is it likely that anything will go wrong?
So:
-move data to new partition
-install windows on old partition
-move data back to old partition
-reinstall programs
My problem is that I don't have an external drive and my upload speed is too slow to back it up in the cloud, so I wondered whether this was an option

If you're very careful, yes.
But the number of times I've seen someone select the wrong partition to format or install to.....🙁
