moving drive

i'm about to switch to a new motherboard and i will be moving the old harddrive to the new motherboard..will i be able to keep the old info on the drive or do i have to do a format etc...thanks.

i'm switching from an abit bh6 board to an abit Kt7...intel to amd

I don't advise this nor have I done it (I have to the same chipset), but I've seen people post success with it. Back up any important data you don't want to lose

before you shut the system down the last time.. remove the the system devices in Device Manager. Then see how Windows 9X handles that on the new board. It'll probably refind the I/0 devices as well because IRQs will probably change, unless you manually are able to set in the bios of the KT7 IRQs for the devices in their current config. If it looks ok you can load the mb drivers. Worst thing that can happen... you have to format and reinstall the OS.

Theoretically, it is possible, as Windows will just detect anything new and ask you for drivers (or automatically install them). As for myself, I prefer to do a complete format.
