I am building a new system based on the Pentium core 2 quad 8200. I would like to move my hard drives with to the new system with t6he existing OS. Is this possible? The drives that I have now are working on an AMD processor. Will I have to do a fresh install because of the difference in components such as tthe MB. Logic tells me I can't but I have been surprised before.

you will need to uninstall all the components which are on the MB. such as onboard sound/video and lan ect....

once you have done that you simply swap over MB and CPU and insall them using uptodate drivers. should not take too long.

Thanks Douggie. I assume you mean you uninstall them with the device manager in the old machine and then move it over. Is that right? Does the fact that I am going from a AMD to a Pentium have any bearing? My feeling is that it doesn't. Have you attempted doing this yourself before?
