Question Moving Files from Taskbar Menu

For all versions of Windows up through Windows 8.1, you could right-click a taskbar icon, then from the menu of recent files, you could click-and-drag any of those files, and it would create a copy wherever you dropped it (desktop, folder, email attachment, etc). This functionality appears to have been removed in Windows 10. Is there any way to get it back? I'm constantly emailing attachments, and it's a pain in the butt to have to track down where the file is actually located so I can attach it to an email.

MS in its wisdom, keeps changing things in the user interface for unknown (and counterproductive!) reasons. You can drag and drop (using left mouse button) things from the Start menu though, that's the closest to what you want as I know about.

Not quite what I'm looking for, and I'm pretty sure you've always been able to do that. What I'm after is individual files, not whole programs. I want to be able to right-click a program on the taskbar, which brings up a menu of recent files opened with that program (still able to do that). From there, you used to be able to left-click one of those file titles, and move/copy it wherever you wanted, without opening the folder containing that particular file. You can no longer do anything other than open the files listed in that menu, and open the file properties dialog box. You can't drag a title and drop a copy wherever you let go of the mouse (unless there's some way to re-enable that functionality).

The idea is to shortcut around having to open or navigate File Explorer, and avoid having to minimize windows to view the desktop. I may look into a "recent files" folder to pin to the taskbar, as that seems like a usable workaround, for which I thank you. I just wish the original functionality still worked. Thanks be to Micro$haft for removing more functionality from their software that people were actually using, and charging more for it... (Another severe annoyance is the loss of Workgroup on a home network. Suddenly, even when you share a folder on a computer without a password, even when you allow unsecured sharing, you have to know the exact file path from the receiving computer, and can't browse to see what folders are shared).

I can't rewrite windows to do what you want so I just offered one option. You might want to post on other forums like here or here, and see if they have another way around. I wouldn't bother asking Microsoft straight away.

Yeah, I was just hoping it was merely "turned off" instead of completely removed, and there was some security setting, or registry item, that could be modified to re-enable it. 🙁 I know nobody here can reprogram Windows (as nice as it would be to be able to fix some of their mistakes).

I do appreciate the help, even if it's merely to confirm MS stupidity once again.

There might be replacement User Intefaces that can do what you want, I can't say I have looked at that side of things but I know there are replacement start menus so maybe?
