Moving from a 1TB HDD to a 500GB SSD, how well does the Samsung migration software work?

I am looking to purchase a 500GB Samsung 850 EVO drive to speed up my gaming pc. I currently have a 1TB drive which only has around 200GB used but I definitely plan on using more. I was wondering IF the Samsung Migration software will be able to clone all of my data onto this SSD. I am only asking because I once had a problem while using Windows 7 to clone data from a 2TB drive to a 1TB drive because the partitions were not the same size. In the end I hope to then use my 1TB drive to backup everything. Thanks for reading the post!

TL;DR - Can I copy all of the contents of my 1TB drive which is only 200GB full to a 500GB SSD using the samsung migration software without running into problems with partition sizings.

Edit: I found on a few unofficial websites that this is possible, but do not have a confirmation, can anyone confirm that you can change to a smaller drive?

I can confirm that the Samsung Program is the best IMO, it worked to recover files and then when I swapped the drives, since all index files were copied perfectly, it turned on and started up the same.
