[SOLVED] Moving from Windows 8.1 PC to new Windows 10 PC - need to get either WIFI or Ethernet working between them.

I'm an intermediate PC user. Both PC's are connected to our home Wifi - I just don't know how to get them to "see" each other, so I can transfer data files, then install new Windows 10 programs on the new PC to use them. I have a dual pane file manager - Altap Salamander, but need to be able to see the Windows 8.1 folders on one pane and the Windows 10 PC on the other.

If not, the Wifi, I also connected an Ethernet cable between them, but cant get that working either. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks.

what data files?
if this is just personal data put them on a disk and physically move them.

and you cannot just "install" applications from an 8.1 system to a 10 system.
you would need new Windows 10 compatible installers and actually run the install packages on the new system.

to access and share files between the two systems wirelessly or through direct network connection you would need to setup a home network and connect both systems to it individually.

some modems/routers will also offer the option to connect a USB drive to the router and access it from all connected devices.

should be very easy to Google instructions for setting this up in your environment with your hardware.

Data files like jpg, doc, etc. I have maybe 200GB.

I didn't say that. I said I want to move the data from the 8 to the 10 PC, then install new programs for it.

I mentioned that both PC's are connected to our high speed WIFI, AND to each other via Ethernet cable. I just don't know how to get them to see each other with either type connection.
