Moving HDD storage to SSD

I currently have a SSD boot drive (C : ) and a storage drive (D : ).

What I want to do is replace the HDD (D : ) with a SSD 1TB.

How can I easily transition without losing or having to re-install games I have on the Storage (D : )?

this is for the sabrent usb 3.0 version which is $10 more than the usb 2.0 .

I am still not sure what you are suggesting. I want to REPLACE my HDD not get an external SSD. I also want to retain all games/photos/ etc...

well with the device I mentioned what it does it clones the HDD to the SSD. then what you do is remove the HDD and place the SSD into its spot

And how does it do that? Automagically? I mean, do I need software, or some drivers or does it just automatically know I want to clone my storage drive?

Can't I just do this in the computer, why do I need to spend money on some external mumbo jumbo when I could just slap it into the computer on SATA and do this right?

There are multiple free tools to do this.
CloneZilla, DriveimageXML, etc.

You can clone contents of the existing drive to a new drive. Then change the new drives letter to what the old one was, and all should work.

These articles were helpful to me also, cloning doesn't always work since it sometimes doesn't clone partitions and set them to boot etc.

A lot of this depends on what exactly you have on your 'storage drive'.

Any applications installed?

As I had mentioned above, it has all of my games (steam,Origin) pictures, movies, music, and Symantec Security software. All running around 200gb.

Steam games can mostly be 'moved', Origin yes but not quite so well
movies, music, etc no problem
Any applications, not really.

Try one of the free cloning applications mentioned above. Then change the target drive letter to what the original one was.
Maybe it will work.
