Question Moving M.2 SSD from old laptop to new laptop?

I have an old laptop that is not working well anymore. It has a 1tb HDD (storage) and a SATA m.2 SSD 500GB with windows 7 which it boots from. Recently purchased an Acer nitro 5 with a 1TB HDD and windows 10 and would like to move the SSD and have it become the main drive.

Do I need to erase the SSD before installing it and then clone the HDD with windows 10? Or is it possible to install the SSD in the new laptop, erase it and then clone?

Wipe the SSD.
Create installation media on the win10 machine.
Install the SSd into the Win10 machine.
Install win10 to the SSD.
