So I am currently building a new system and have a 500gb 970 evo m.2 which i am going to fresh install windows on along with a new 1tb 860 evo ssd. In my old system I have a 500gb 850 evo which has windows installed and a 1tb wd mechanical drive. I want to move the 2 drives from the old system to the new one while retaining the files on both drives. How do i do this with windows installed on technically 2 drives when i plug them into the new system? I was thinking about just moving my files from both that i need onto and external drive then wiping both but was wondering if there is an easier way i can just plug them in.

Solution
Moving the files you wish to keep to some other storage device is the best way forward.
Then, you simply wipe these drives clean.
Move your personal files back after.

To wipe them clean, the commandline function diskpart, and the clean command.
