Hello,

I'm new to Windows 10 and have configured my system with a C: and D: drives. I always like to separate OS from user data and so would like to move all the default locations of the standard user folders like Downloads, Music, Video etc onto my D: drive. Now, I know you can move each folder individually from the Location tab under the properties option on each folder mentioned above but I'm wondering if there's a quicker way to have the entire user root (i.e "User") folder along with all its subordinate folders moved to another location.

Any help appreciated.

The default locations for Download/Docs/Pics/Video...no problem.

Moving the entire /User/ folder is highly not recommended.

If OP has the creators update, Save Locations is no longer present in Settings. Microsoft killed it.

@raotor, I'm pretty sure you have to do it one at a time.

1) Press Windows+E to open Windows Explorer.
2) Click This PC on the left hand side. The libraries (Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos) will be listed across the top.
3) Right-click on the one you intend to move.
4) Click Properties.
5) Click the Location tab across the top.
6) Click Move... and specify the new location.
7) Click Select Folder.
8) Click Okay. Repeat this process for all remaining libraries you wish to move.

I agree that moving the entire user directory is a bad idea. Just move the libraries, they're what's eating away at your hard drive's free space.

?????
This, from Settings/Storage, Win 10 Pro, Creator update:

It still exists.

My install must be corrupt. This isn't the first thing that's not right on my machine.

I'll create a new thread instead of clogging this one up.

I very long time ago, i (somehow) moved my Users folder for my login to H drive, a new spiffy drive. C drive thanked me as it was full.

Now, with the latest Win10 Creators, i am hosed as predicted by this article. I have manually (by right clicking on them, and changing Location) moved all of my folders back to C drive - 3d objects, desktop, documents, downloads, pictures, videos.

However, some apps - specifically adobe - try to create temp files on H drive still!

Do you have any advice for un-doing my (ancient) move of my user folder to H drive? I cant find it anywhere. everything in Win 10 (either right clicking folders, or looking in Settings -> Storage) says it is using c drive. I cant find a reference to H drive anywhere... except when i try to install Adobe XD. (oddly my other 99 adobe apps all install fine from same CC installer app =/ )

help? I was young and needed the money/hd space =(

I would suggest making your own post about your problem as more people will answer you there. If you link to this thread they won't repeat same answers again. That and the last reply here was 8 months ago and your post is classified as a necro post.

It could be possible you used junction links: https://superuser.com/questions/931992/moving-windows-folders-around-with-junction-links-mklink
