I have a WD 500GB HDD. Windows and programs is on a 50GB partition (C:\) on the same HDD. I've ordered a samsung 840 EVO 128GB SSD. Is it possible to clone only partiton "C:\" on the new SSD ?

EDIT : Its all done now. I used samsung Data Migration tool and it cloned my C: partition in under 10 minutes. I shut down my PC, changed boot device to the Samsung SSD and powered up, the old C: partition which was on my HDD was automatically assigned F: as drive letter, I didn't even have to remove the old HDD. Thanks for all the help.

Your best bet is a clean installation. You could make an image of the partition and then put it on the SSD. However you might find the system does not boot properly. There is a hidden partition that contains the master boot records and system configuration files. These are essential to windows working. Also windows might consider the change as a new system and ask to be reactivated. Changing drives is not a deal breaker for windows but still might require the activation. Go to your administrative tools and check under the disc management section. You will see the hidden partition I am referring to.

Thanks for the reply. Here is a screenshot. http://i.imgur.com/64Kl10n.png. I can't find any hidden partition. I think all boot/config files are on the C partition itself. I'd really prefer not to re-install windows. Any software that can help to clone only the system partition and not the entire disk ?

I'll be getting my SSD today. Just a quick question, After cloning, what do I do with my HDD? I want to use the 50GB partition for storage. Will it be assigned another drive letter since my SSD will be the new C:\ ?
