I am upgrading the parts in my PC and I want to keep all of my files whilst moving windows. I also am using the free Windows 10 Education edition but wouldn't mind buying the product key if necessary.

Old Specs: CPU: AMD FX 8350 8core
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 6gb
Mobo: ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0
PSU: EV3A 750 GQ
Not sure of the ram
SSD: Adata SU635 240gb 3D-NAND SATA 2.5" & Seagate Constellation ES.2 ST33000651NS 3TB 7200rpm 64MB cache sata 6.0Gb/s

New specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
GPU same as before
Mobo: MSI Tomahawk Max
Psu same as before
RAM: Gskill ripjaws v series ddr4 3200hz 16gb
SSD same as before

Old FX-8350 -> New Ryzen 5 = a whole fresh install in the new hardware.

Windows is not nearly as modular as we'd like it to be.
Your new system wants...requires...a clean install.
I just upgraded not too long ago and replaced the parts and it was pretty much plug and play. No bios stuff, no messing with windows, just booted up. Thank you for the help

Wrong. I don’t believe this. You go ahead though and tell us how it goes you will need a clean install for sure

To be fair, it sometimes does work.
And then you find little issues cropping up.

And anyone who says it always works is just deluded.

Best practices, though, does point to doing a full wipe and reinstall.
Day 2 there hasn't been any problems but I will keep an eye out. The only thing I did was at boot I pressed f2 to load default and Windows did the rest. I have a fresh install of windows on a usb just incase though.
