I've been using firefox... a preview release for SuSE linux... it's great!

I've been using it for two weeks... I have had very little crashes (2 of them only), but that's because I was using a lot (like 6+) of firefox windows.

Great browser anyway. Netscape (let alone IE) always give me more trouble than this.

I've found 1.0 RC1 more stable than any other release, including 1.0 PR release

Really? I've been using 1.0 PR! Maybe that's it, maybe that's why I have been having trouble.

In any case, it's one hell of a browser. I'll install 1.0 as soon as it gets released!

- Vulnerabilities in Mozilla (10/26/04).
According to SecurityTracker, two security flaws have been detected in the Mozilla browser Firefox and one in the Mozilla email program Thunderbird.
The first of the flaws detected in Mozilla Firefox is a Denial of Service vulnerability, and the second problem lies in the fact that temporary files are stored in an unsafe manner. The third vulnerability detected, which affects Mozilla Thunderbird, occurs when an attachment is opened using the "Open with" option; the file is saved in the '/tmp' directory with world-readable permissions.

Firefox bugfixes are lot quicker than IE. They usually fix issuses within days, not months

Aye, but I still couldn't resist raining on your parade.

Besides, I use FireFox at work... so I'm also a fan of it.

You know what I've been trying to do?... I've been trying to make the bookmarks toolbar folder display tiny icons for each site... IE did that once for me, and it got so damned cute

Previosuly, one access to each site on IE would load the icon and display the tiny icon on the links toolbar, but firefox did that only to THGC Forums icons... the rest can be accessed, and nothing happens.

It was so damned nice to see xbitabs, for instance, have its own stylish X icon and not the standard "small page" thingie... Gmail was a G, altavista had its own icon, THG was a hammer, yahoo had "Y!" and theinq had a small greek "n"...

Does anyone know how I can do that?

Maybe the 1.0 release can do that automatically.

I ran FireFox for a little while I did not like the Proxy options in the browser tools.

I also got Browser hijacked............Even after applying all relevant changes to my anti-virus and firewall software.

What I have done on my fresh install of XP is remove all Microsoft Networking from the Install during the install options.

I run a strictly TCP/IP network that is all that shows in the connection TAB for the network card.

Both IE and Firefox are running great now. I was not scoring the same benchmark speeds before in Firefox that I was able to achieve in IE. Firefox still seems to have slower networking protocols but if you are on DSL or Dial-up it is probably a good Browser. I run a enhanced cable connection.

Well, if I visit these toolbar links at least once, then firefox remembers the icons. I don't know what happens if you delete cache. It definately doesn't work if you half-load the page or never visit.

....with me, it's because as far as I can tell, it's just great.

I wonder if I can upgrade my 1.0 PR to the full 1.0 without any hassles? And maybe it can detect that I've been using 1.0 PR?

Maybe YOU can do that for me? (I mean Yast Online Update from SuSE, not any of you)

Also, what about Thunderbird? Is that easy to use? Firefox and Thunderbird?... I was in need of an e-mail management program... what about TB?... anyone use it? Is it easy to install? Trouble-free? Comments?

I use firefox for tabbed browsing and other nice features that IE doesn't have. "Find as you type" in webpages is great and I use it a lot. Bookmarks toolbar folder is much better than IE links folder, it allows me to open a group of links at once. Firefox extensions are better to manage than IE ActiveX controls. I have never had browser hompage hijack, unwanted pop-up since I've switched to firefox. Lately I've seen numerous pop-ups that can bypass google toolbar's pop-up blocker.

I've been using Firefox & Thunderbird for about 5 months. Both are great programs, trouble free, very easy to install. Also about Thunderbird in specific, it has everything you can ask for in an e-mail program. I am currently using it along Hotmail Popper, getting access this way to my Hotmail account as well, within Thunderbird. What I mostly like about both programs is that they feel very light/fast. At the same time they are very simple and easy to use, while offering the same, if not more, features than their competitors. No issues whatsoever.

Also, at least when talking about the Windows versions, you can uninstall either program, install the newer version, and all your settings/e-mails/favorites/etc will be there, without the need for you to do absolutely anything. They are stored under "Document and Settings" in WinXP and everything is compatible with newer versions, except most extensions. That's no problem though since newer Firefox versions can even update extensions automatically by finding and downloading any newer versions that have been released.

Btw, anyone having problems with Firefox 1.0PR, I suggest to upgrade to 1.0RC1 asap. From my personal experience, many problems that were there are now solved.

If you don't have any extension installed, then you won't run into any problems. But if you have some extensions/themes installed, then you have to do a little trick if you don't want to wait for compatible versions. Most of the extensions don't want to work with new FF version, because they don't recognize it. Type "about:config" in address bar, use filter "version" and change the "app.version" value to "0.10" from "1.0". Then almost every 1.0 PR compatible extensions should work fine with 1.0 RC1.

I use only HTTP mail, so I can't tell much about Thunerbird. But it has got a lot of good reviews.

Hm... I'm currently using firefox in linux and mostly netscape in windows (I have two HDDs with each OS in the boot partition of each disk), but I'm considering switching to firefox altogether everywhere.

My only reason not to do so is that I need to do a clean install of WinXP... it has become buggy as hell. I can't open CorelDraw and I can't change fonts in word; heck, I've even been affected by that nasty thing that took out your notepad. It's a mess, and I'm nearly formatting the whole drive. (I've been using mostly linux on account of that mess)

I use firefox to prevent spyware infections. I visit several sites regularly, some of them pretty dodgy, that are sponsored by advertising and with IE I was getting hammered by spyware, I mean hammered (100s of spyware files within 5 minutes browsing). Since using Firefox for 3 months I haven't had a single spyware infection and my Corporate NAV detects and removes virus infected java files immeadiately.
