MP4 video Codec

I need a video codec that can compress clips into .mp4s since my current one only does .avi and m y video editor can't edit that so please help.

VLC can convert just about anything. Handbrake is great for transcoding and will give you more options then VLC. I typically use Handbrake for converting videos to MP4. All my videos get converted to MP4, so I can easily normalize the sound levels.

Handbrake and VLC are both free.
