[SOLVED] MS account confusion

I'm now on an HP laptop that I've not used in 2-3 years and its wants to verify my MS account password which I understand to be the same as my Hotmail account. So, I entered that *current working Hotmail password and almost locked myself out.
And, it's also displaying my Gmail account which I cannot change (to Hotmail). So, might there be some confusion with my PC asking to confirm my Windows password? Or, do I need to enter the outdated Hotmail password I used to create an account on this laptop?

Hotmail account is not necessary the same thing as MS account.

You MS account most likely is named xxxxxx@gmail.com , but it has different password than gmail account (replace xxxxxx with your actual gmail username).
You can check it by going to

https://account.microsoft.com/

There you can also reset password for your MS account. Verification will be sent to your gmail mail.
