I'm interested in creating a partition on my hard drive for the real MS-DOS and not the Windows version so I can play some older games. Will the games be able to detect my SBLive!?

Specifically, what games are you trying to get to run?
I can get 605k free under win98se with 16meg ems, and run every old dos game I have with sound and usb mouse support. It's kinda strange on some of the games though, because the music/sound isn't exactly as I remember it being. Maybe that's just the difference between the floppy and cdrom versions though.
If you'd rather use win98, I can give you some tips. I've never gone back and set up dos 6.22 and Qemm 7.0, though I still have both.

Your SBlive may work in SB16 emulation mode(no native support under dos!), but I found legacy driver to be real CPU-hog: DOOM2 didn't run smooth on Duron 700. That's only problem in real DOS mode, under windoze old games working pretty fine (sound quality isn't very good thougt).
