MS04-011 patch hangs NT on reboot

Installing the latest MS patch on one of my NT servers
caused the server to hang on reboot and I was forced to
uninstall the patch so I am not unprotected. I have read
about the issue where CPU pegs at 100% while repeatedly
trying to load drivers etc. MS indicates that Nortel VPN
and IPSec Policy could be a problem, (I don't have this
installed).

My questions is; does anyone know if MS will be providing
any resolution to this? Or are those of us still using
NT going to be left out in the cold, unprotected from the
vulnerablities that have now been exposed.

I Haven't even got that far! I've tried several times to install this patch via Windows Update and manually without luck. Here is the event log:
The description for Event ID ( 16389 ) in Source ( WindowsUpdateV3 ) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): V3_2|6251|INSTALL|Security Update for Windows (KB835732)|1,10,101,0|2004-05-04 20:54:59|1|FAIL|0x80004005|Unspecified error|.
I'm not sure if it is related but I can't install another patch as well:
The description for Event ID ( 16389 ) in Source ( WindowsUpdateV3 ) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): V3_2|6190|INSTALL|Security Update for Windows (KB828741)|1,10,101,0|2004-05-04 20:55:05|1|FAIL|0x80004005|Unspecified error|.

Has anyone solved this problem?

This situation could be reflecting the conditions of the day
with the Sasser worm supposedly running rampant throughout the
Internet and panic among a large number of users overloading
the servers in order to obtain the patch. It was stop-and-go
during the early morning hours, Redmond time, but we managed
to download the patches from several sites and made repair
kits on cdroms to update our clients - NT, W2K and XP.

Jay,
I am getting this same thing - NT4 server restarted ok but when it was powered down this happened. How did you uninstall the Patch? and did you find out how to sort this?

I tried on another coupe of servers re-installing SP 6a and this seemed to go ok.
