When attempting to install the patch for Jet addressed in this security bulletin (KB837001), a workstation receives an error message stating that there is not enough disk space to install. The C:\ partition has over 8 gigs of free space, so that's really not the issue... Has anyone else seen something similar?

Thanks!

Ken

Hi Ken,

This is an NT4 system ?

When you say 'the C: drive has over 8GB of free space' are you saying that it
is the drive that holds the system boot files and the files in the /winnt folder ?

Have a read of http://nt4ref.zcm.com.au/bigdisk.htm Make sure you read the
knowledgebase articles listed there - a _system_ or _boot_ partition which
exceeds the 7.8GB barrier is a very unsafe arrangement, and will likely lead to
system failure when one or more files needed to start NT4 gets moved beyong the
7.8GB limit.

The error message you are getting when trying to install new software may be
related to these problems.

Calvin.

I'm clarifying with the technician that reported the error. We need to verify the free space on the system. In a way I'm hoping it was a misundertanding. We don't use any third party software to extend the partitions when we create our PC images, however, they might have used Ghost to expand the system partition when the image was brought down onto the machine. I did have someone else mention that perhaps the registry has exceeded the maximum size. Maybe?
