I am having problems opening msconfig. My computer
attempts to lauch some phantom program that dials my
internet conncetion at start up. My virus software and
spyware programs say there are no suspicious conditions
on the computer. There is only one user for this
computer and the user has administrator's authority.
When I perfrom Start>Run>msconfig, the program opens then
immediately closes.

Can anyone give me a hint on any options short of a 10
guage to the processor?

Boot to the Safe Mode and scan your system again. A virus may be actie
and prevent the virus scanner from removing t.

Sounds like you have some Spyware sneaking into your computer. Try Spybot,
AdAware, AVG (By Grisoft)
