I would like to know the opinion of users from this forum as well.
Ryzen 9 5800X, Ryzen 9 5900X or Intel i9-10900K?
Main function: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

MSFS launched with DX11 API. The game's performance is heavily bound by a single cpu thread(Primary Thread).
Those cpus will be near identical in performance, until MS can port in DX12(ETA unknown).
Until then, the cpu with the highest single core performance is the slight winner.

OH, you created the threads about overclocking to the moon.
Well, if you're a diehard fan of this, that might not be in your best interests until DX12 happens.

But DX12 is already out... Correct?

All three of those CPUs should perform quite well (my 5800X is excellent with this sim, by the way). The real question is what GPU do you intend to use?
Since this is relevant to the OP's question, if you cut all your settings to low and off (to get your FPS up since it's killer on the video card right now) what is your actual usage on that 8 core 16 thread processor.

Can it actually use the processor or is it mainly using a couple cores and a bit of some more.
% of each core would be nice if you can make the time.

Not sure how DX12 would change that.

EDIT just trying to determine how many cores it will use that actually count. Example using 4 cores @ 90% and 4 more @20% just to get a base line to me that would mean as of now a 6 core processor would be fine.

This means that going for Intel i9-10900K is more secure?

I'll run later and see. Good question.

Not actually yet from the benchmarks I have seen it never listed the 5XXX AMD processors but had a 9700K listed with some overclock numbers. This showed the base clock a bit under a decent overclock and a higher overclock actually getting a bit les FPS.

See my post above and see if the mod will test the game as I described.

I got confused... I prefer to be practical since I am in a process of getting a new computer. I can't get both processors. 😊

I know but you might be able to save a bit and get like a 11700K at this point the 10900K has been replaced with a 11900K that gives better performance.

EDIT the 11xxx processors are supposed to be just ahead by a nose over the AMD and about 15% better than the 10XXX processors.

EDIT again he said that was a good question and would run the game to check probably not today but should be in the next day or 2 so no big rush right?

10900K is almost at the same price of 11700K. However my initial question was intended to be an AMD/Intel choice because this decision changes the motherboard and maybe other parts.

11900K is out of question. It is more than 200 euros extra...
At this time >>> 10900K = 468 euros; 5800X = 457 euros; 5900X = 559 euros

I would wait for the answer if the game only uses a few cores then the 11700K would give you better performance at the very least on the 1% low FPS. And then again you might even be able to drop to the 11600K or 5600X for that sim and lower the price keeping the same performance.

EDIT basically just changes the motherboard, and CPU cooler choice. I don't think it's going to matter a bunch since the game/sim is looking to be very poorly optimized and is killer on the video card.

Can't wait because I also need computer for other things like video editing :disrelieved:
I already waited a lot of time. Probably I will prefer to upgrade CPU and MB like you said but in 2 or 3 years, which means I am asking the best solution for this moment, with all the information we already know.

Don't overthink it. If you are also doing video editing on the side, 5900x is 100% the best choice.

On the topic of MSFS performance, I've done the grand job of searching the question for you:

And yes. I could only find three (somewhat reputable) sources online for Zen 3 benchmarks on MSFS 2020. Even less for Rocket Lake.

So, for MSFS 2020, i9-10900K in 2K resolution is still is the pole position if overclocked. Even without overclocking, both Ryzen 9 5900 X and Intel i9-10900K are almost performing the same. 😉

About video editing I am just doing simples things for youtube. If with i7-2600K I can do them resonably, with i9-10900K or 5900X I am sure this tasks can also be done.
