Hi All,

I need your advice to choose between these 3 cards (with the price in my country) as below:
- MSI 1070 Gaming X ($529)
- MSI 1070 Ti Armor ($585)
- And MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X ($747)
My current need is only about gaming at 1080p (60Hz) with max Ultra settings, but will need the system to be futureproofed to at least the next 2 years, when I will upgrade my monitor to 1440p (and will also purchase an AIO watercooler ($120) so that I can overclock it to handle those 1440p).

My friend told me that I should purchase a cheaper GTX 1070 card with custom PCB board (e.g. 1070 Ti Armor) rather than the MSI Gaming edition because both are having tiny difference in FPS and at the end, I will replace the original fan by the watercooler anyway. Is this correct?

About the GTX 1080 Gaming X vs 1070 Ti Armor (+max overclock with watercooler), which card will suit my need the best with the most optimal P/P, given the price difference is only around $40? Thanks.

Price of 1070Ti Gaming X is around $686 - but it's currently out of stock at most of the shops in my city.

In the case the best price to performance would probably be the 1070 ti armor but I wouldn't bother adding the AIO cooler. If you factor in the price of the AIO you might as just get the 1080 gaming X. It will be faster than the overclocked 1070ti and you could always overclock it more and you won't have to void your warranty adding the AIO.

I added the watercooler as I think high temperature (avg temp of my room is already 30°C) may cause throttleneck and prevent it from OC to the max possible level. What I'm concerned is whether 1070Ti can achieve GTX 1080-like performance through overclocking? As you said, it's a 28% difference in price and at the moment, 1080 is somehow overkilling what I need. So this is about:
- Buy 1070Ti now, then spend $120 more in next 2 years to upgrade it to GTX1080-like for 1440p gaming?
- Or pay $162 extra now for GTX1080

Also, is there any significant difference in FPS between GDDR5 and GDDR5X? I saw on youtube lots of comments that mentioned GDDR5X as a superior advantage of GTX1080 vs other lower tier card.

Thank you for the link, but all 3 were running at base speed. I need some benchmarks that show whether the GTX 1070Ti can achieve or surpass the GTX 1080-like performance through overclocking.
