Not wrong, it's just way overkill lol. You could easily game at 4K with a 1080 Ti!

If you're going to be limited to 1080p, or want to push slightly higher, a 1070 would be more than enough. But if you've got the cash and you're really itching to burn it, hey, go nuts and get the 1080 Ti :)

60Hz monitor and i7 4770k cpu. Maybe in future I will get better monitor but now I have chance to buy 1080ti so I was wondering will I have any problems with it?

Also I have this psu (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152036), will it be enough for 1080ti if I decide to not pass chance to get it?

Incorrect, a 1080Ti won't hold 144fps @ 1080p ultra settings in many games. While most people are very happy to drop a few game settings or accept anything >100fps those who want to run the highest possible settings in all games at 144fps would want a 1080Ti.

I'm not so sure about that, because I've gamed on a single 1070 with max details at 1440p and 144 Hz without issue... have you ever tested gaming on a 1070?

It's a waste at 1080p 60Hz, your better off buying a 1060 6gb or even 1070 now and saving your money. Then in 1-2 years sell your gpu and use a little of the money saved to get a next generation card. That way you get whatever features newer cards support.

However even though its a waste it will work.

730w is borderline... I believe a 750w PSU is the minimum recommended for a 1080 Ti. It's a pretty power hungry GPU, draws almost 300w alone.

You've only posted benchmarks that support your POV though... lots of other 1080p benchmarks on the site there where a 1080 Ti posts well above 140 FPS. In Rise of the Tomb Raider at 1080p, for example, 1080 Ti achieves 175 FPS... well above 144 Hz. Or what about Battlefield and Gears of War 4, where the 1080 Ti posts 160+ FPS on both at max settings?

Point is, GPUs are generally categorized on their overall performance categories... it's widely acknowledged that the 1060 is a 1080p card, 1070 /1080 are a 1440p+ cards and Titan X / 1080 Ti are considered 4K+ cards. And with the exception of a few benchmarks, like those you posted, in 95% of cases, 1080 Ti would be considered overkill for 1080p gaming.

No what I have done is back up my point. I have shown there are many games where a 1080Ti can't hold 144fps at max setting and this is something a few people strive to do. Making a sweeping statement that a 1080Ti is overkill without knowing exactly what the OP wants to achieve could have lead to disappointment, seen this type of thing many times. Of course a 1080Ti can maintain 144fps in a high percentage of games but that's irrelevant, it can't do it for all so I don't agree it can be called overkill. I also only picked one review as I'm on my phone but there are many others that show similar.

Again generalisations that could mislead people, I don't see a 1060 as 1080p 144Hz card. So calling it a 1080p card without qualifying 60Hz or 144Hz could set unrealistic expectations to those who haven't studied the benchmarks.

What I'm trying to point out is that if we go based on your logic of a small percentage of use cases, then technically, no piece of hardware will ever be considered "overkill". No matter how good something is, there will always be a scenario where performance can be taxed, and that holds true for anything. So when we say "overkill", we're referring to the overwhelming majority of use cases, not the 5%. And in 95% of cases, gaming at 1080p with a 1080 Ti would fall under the category of overkill.

Sizzling is correct. Many AAA games, in my case BF1, can't keep 144fps even at 1080p/high. I hover around 120. 1440p/ultra is right out. AC Syndicate ran about 70 fps and Andromeda is about the same, but with significant dips. Gsync ftw...

Edit: in reference to a 1070 anyway.

I was wondering the same and I have a 144Hz monitor but an old i7 2600. I only say as my friend is selling his cheap to me if I want it. I don't hit a solid on ultra atm with a msi rx 480 and don't think my i7 is still to much of a bottleneck (only problem is the MB its in as it don't support pci 3.0. Again I can get this 1080to cheap and sell the rx 480 8gb for as much as i paid atm.

That's still a great cpu but in the latest AAA games it won't achieve 144fps but should be over >100. I'd say get the 1080Ti, every setup has a bottleneck. It's not the cpu I would choose if buying today but if your getting a 1080Ti for 480 money there is no reason not too.

thanks I'm not aiming to hit anywhere near 144fps but just everything on ultra 80fps would be fine. Just trying to keep my old computer in the game.

so... 1080ti oc on a 4770k and 1080p @60hz...is it ok or not? im having same issue as poster of this thread and now i dont know should i buy new cpu or new monitor or can i play with this rig for some time and get rest of hardware later? im looking to get 90fps in battlefield 1 on ultra settings if possible

hello. I did end up getting the 1080ti for $1000 aud sold my rx480 for $500 aud. I can run bf1 at 90+ fps with everything on ultra even can run with the scaling up higher but I don't think its worth it. If you can get one cheap or have money to burn I'd go for it.
