I've recently built a new PC with a MSI 2070 armor as my GPU- During games and character selection screens (in WoW and Divinity 2), I have noticed a pretty high sounding coil whine, especially when FPS is >100. For example, if i framelock my FPS to around 60 in these games, the sound goes completely away. I have tried enabling V-Sync in both games, but still does not have any effect on sound unless I lock my frames to 60 fps. This is a problem for me, due to the fact I have a 144hz monitor and would prefer to be able to get high frames w/o such an annoying sound. I do have "adaptive fresh" on in the nvidia panel. Can anyone help me with these, any other suggestions or should I consider returning card? *The sound does increase bit by bit when raising the fps frame cap*

Most GPU's produce coil whine, but usually not with as little as 100fps, menus and inventory screens for example where the framerate can skyrocket without vsync tends to cause coil whine.

Setting an FPS cap to get rid of it is a non solution in my opinion assuming you would like to get over 60fps. No type of vsync is going to get rid of it without keeping FPS at a level where coil whine does not occur.

I would send it back and hope the replacement is a bit better in terms of coil whine if it really bothers you. Besides that you could try a different power supply, or even a different wall outlet on another circuit especially if the circuit you are currently using is under heavy load from powering other stuff.
