MSI A6000 laptop won't boot. How to get the data off before resetting drive?

A6000 won't boot. It appears I have to go to original factory settings losing all data. How can I get the data off to a usb drive before the reset?

Buy a 2.5-inch external enclosure and put the drive into that. Then plug it into a spare USB port on any computer.

You should keep your data backed up at all times, not just worry about it when something bad happens.
What if the hard drive had failed? Your data would then be inaccessible by any method except specialist data recovery which costs a small fortune.
