I have googled and looked at youtube instructions on how to get the display to work while playing a game to detect mem usage, temp, framerate, etc...

I cant get it to show up ever...any help is possible. I have riva tuner running in the background, have all the settings ticked as shown in the tutorials...and nothing.

Is there something key I am missing.

any help is appreciated

Ok then your are launching the game in 64bit and afterburner will not show OSD for 64bit.
Go to the games files and find the 86x file and launch the game with this file.
this should be the 32 bit version of the game and afterburners OSD should now work fine.
<ALSO MAKE SURE RIVA TUNER IS ACTIVE or OSD WILL NOT WORK>

The only game I have right now is resident evil 5...I am new to pc gaming, but typically don't have problems following instructions / tutorials. to me the tutorial on getting this up and running is pretty straight forward.

Does it need to have a toggle setup?

RE5 works.

Settings>On Screen Display>Toggle On Screen Display.

You don't need a toggle, but its much easier. An alternate way of bringing it up is alt-tabbing out the game and going to the Rivatuner program, at the top there is a button that says 'Show on screen display'.

man I have checked both, and all is checked off. I even set a toggle and tried to toggle off and on with no luck.

Should resident evil be in the list of .exe's in the riva list? And if so, should I have to manually put it in there?

Na you don't need to do it manually. Sometimes it just messes up like this, try restarting if you haven't already. Also make sure you the stuff you want to monitor in the properties section of 'Monitoring' as 'in OSD', or you are just toggling nothing.

first off I really appreciate your help and answers...but I am still not getting it.

Riva server is up, show osd is enabled, msi is also active and all the ones I want to see are checked and set to show on osd.

I don't know what else to do, but I for sure want some sort of stats display...that's one of the main reasons I like pc gaming is to see how well your hardware is performing.

I also restarted...not sure what else to do.

in reference to the MSI afterburner not working on battlefield 4, it WILL work but only if you launch B4 in the 32 bit mode(X86)
afterburner does not support 64 bit games so i had to launch B4 in its 32 bit mode.
there is no difference in play or look of the game this way.

I can't get it to work at all.
