MSI Afterburner GPU FAN spikes but HWMonitor shows fine

MSI software reading my GPU Fan RPM wrong? it only spikes for a split second every 10 or so minutes (I do not hear the fan speed up at all when the spike occurs) anyways, should I be worried about this?

Example: 70c = 2000RPM @65% fan (The spike reads double whatever the RPM is at that specific temperature so 4000RPM spike)

HWMonitor reports 2000rpm no spikes.

Side note: on my MSI x99a Gaming 7 BiOS under fan controls occasionally a case fan will report a spike, also for a split second not affecting the fan at all.

Again though, under HWMonitor all is fine w/ case fans and GPU fan

UPDATE: HWMonitor reports the spike but while msi afterburner was on too the spike didn't show on MSI this time, whats the deal? lol

yeah still happens there, the fan % doesn't spike just the RPM randomly. I think this started after the recent nvidia update or at least that's when i noticed it

they're blaming the zotac model of the card but i believe this is just a 980ti bug in general

If it is a known problem 980Ti hopefully nvidia will do something about it in their driver updates. Have you check nvidia own forum?
